Academic Gypsies, the author's third book, chronicles her forty-year quest to complete her education. After marriage to Jack and raising children in California, she moved with her husband, by then a Fulbright lecturer, to Mexico, Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa, and Brazil. Despite culture shock, civil wars apartheid-era restrictions and frequent travel, Elizabeth Schneider finally earned her Ph. D. in African Art at the age of 64.
