At the same time, the University of Notre Dame, a long-time icon of excellence in Catholic education, has sold its soul for government funding and peer-group status among secular institutions of learning. The conferral of an honorary doctorate on El Baba, a zealous abortion advocate, has sundered the school from the Catholic Church and from many in the Notre Dame “family.”
