Ignatius Sancho
Born on a slave ship crossing the Atlantic, Ignatius Sancho defied what he called the 'miserable fate of almost all of our unfortunate colour'. A friend of Laurence Sterne, and author of A Theory of Music, Sancho had become part of the literary and musical establishment by the time of his death in 1780.
