The following Planning Guide has been provided to assist you in customizing the text to provide the best earth science course for your students.
Scott, Foresman Earth Science may be used in a full-year course as well as in a one-semester course. It is assumed that a full-year course consists of 180 classroom periods of approximately 45 minutes each. Similarly, it is assumed that a one-semester course would consist of 90 classroom periods. Within each chapter there are certain sections that are of primary importance in developing major concepts. It is recommended that a one-semester course concentrate on these sections. A full-year course should include these sections of primary importance as well as the remaining sections as time will allow.
The Planning Guide is only a suggested pacing chart to help you complete your goals for a one-semester course or for the full school year. It should be used only in relation to the interest and ability levels of your students, available materials, and the time you have for instruction. The time you devote to any of the topics can always be extended and enriched by using suggestions in the Teacher's Annotated Edition as well as with the materials provided in the Teacher's Resource Book, Study and Review Guide, and Laboratory Manual.
